Polyamide 6 (PA 6) is a semicrystalline polyamide initially developed in order to emulate the properties of Nylon 6/6 without the violation of its patent. It is formed via ring-opening polymerization, which is unusual for a polyamide as they are typically formed via condensation polymerization. Modifications to PA 6 can be made to increase it's impact toughness.
